Zachary Kellogg
Flutist, Pianist, Orchestrator and Composer, Zachary Kellogg is an internationally acclaimed Classical and Jazz Artist.
On the outskirts of Seattle, Washington, Zachary was born into a large musical family. He started playing the flute at age 6 and piano at age 10. Starting his musical career early, he grew up playing in churches and musical theaters with his mother, father and sisters. Zachary was hailed as a “true child prodigy” by the International Congress for Gifted and Talented Children.
Starting off as a classically-trained musician in the Pacific-Northwest, Zachary was the youngest flutist to ever win the Seattle Young Artist Music Festival at 13 years old. Other accomplishments in the Seattle area include: First place in Cascade Symphony’s Rising Star Competition; a two-time winner of Seattle Flute Society’s Horsfall Competition; and was named a Seattle Chamber Music Society’s “Emerging Artist.” He has also appeared on several local news and radio programs in the Seattle area.
Expanding his classical career to the national level, Zachary took second Place at the MTNA National Competition, after winning at the state and regional levels. In the opportunity of a lifetime, Zachary’s made his solo Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 13 after winning first place in the Alexander and Buono International Flute Competition.
After seeing Ali Ryerson’s Jazz Flute Big Band perform at The National Flute Convention, he was inspired to learn the art of jazz. In a full-circle moment, he then became a three-time winner of the National Flute Association’s Jazz Flute Big Band Competition. Zachary was also named “Outstanding Soloist” at The Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival.
In 2009, Zachary was signed by Pony Boy Records and released his debut jazz CD “Red Velvet” in July of 2010. The title track is an original composition by Zachary and the album features some of Seattle’s top jazz musicians.
In 2010, Zachary was signed as a Pearl Flute Artist and plays a Champagne Gold Plated Pearl Cantabile Flute. Zachary had the honor of appearing as Pearl Flute’s Headline Artist at MusicFest Canada 2012. He also performed as a soloist with the Toronto Wind Orchestra and presented masterclasses in classical, jazz and “stage presence” to hundreds of Canada’s leading young musicians.
Zachary has performed with such jazz greats as Hubert Laws, Holly Hofmann, Jim Walker, Ali Ryerson, Mike Wofford and YouTube sensation, Greg Pattillo. Zachary was invited to New York to record jazz flute and piccolo on Ali Ryerson’s Jazz Flute Big Band album “Game Changer.” The album was released in August 2013 from Capri Records and spent 10 weeks in the Top 10 iTunes Jazz Charts.
He has also accompanied masterclasses for Tony Award Winner Alice Ripley, as well as Lauren Molina and Louis Hobson. He has worked additionally with Grammy-Award-winner Jason Howland, as well as Frank Wildhorn & Disney legend Lea Solonga.
In 2021, Zachary was awarded first place in the Music and Stars International Competition and was awarded second place in the Medici International Music Competition.
In addition to his performance accomplishments, Zachary is also an acclaimed Music Director. He is a 2-time Broadway World Seattle nominee for music direction and served as the Resident Music Director at Pacific Lutheran University from 2017 - 2022.
Additionally in 2022, Zachary was the Music Director, Supervisor, and Co-Orchestrator of the world premiere production of “Winghaven Park”, a new musical written and produced by Lisa Peretti.
Zachary has composed over 45 original children’s musical scores and books, including both original adaptions and 12 original shows such as: "Fairy Fails," "Great Bakers Rising," "Mall Murders: The Musical," and “Klahanie: An Island Tale.”
Zachary maintains an active select teaching studio, offering both virtual and in-person instruction. His students have performed at venues such as Seattle Opera, Village Theater and the 5th Avenue Theater.
Zachary is currently located in New York City and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
